The Buddha says:
Fools worry about fame and fortune.
They want to get power, position, prestige, money…
Fools worry about these things.
“Desire” means thinking about getting something. In their daily lives, common people always want to get this or that. Because they are always worried about getting something, they really suffer a lot.
There is somebody at work who I can’t stand, but unfortunately he always does everything better than me. I am really tempted to trick him and let him take a big fall.
Master Cheng Yen said, “Some people cannot stand it when others are successful and get lots of praise. These people think that if they show up the faults of those other people, then they themselves will look better. This is a delusion. Slandering others only hurts yourself.”
